This week we discussed Krampus, complete with a surprise visit from the man...well, goat-demon-man, himself! Here are relevant pictures and links!
The Booze:
Glühwein
German/Austrian mulled wine winter/holiday drink, often an ‘after
ski’ drink, as you were cold and it would quickly warm you up. It
is available all over that region during the winter months!
-3/4 cup water
-3/4 cup sugar (white)
-1 cinnamon stick
-1 orange
-10 whole cloves
-1 bottle (750ml) red wine
-In a saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and cinnamon stick.
Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer.
-Cut the orange in half, and squeeze the juice into the simmering
water. Push the whole cloves into the outside of the orange peel,
and place the peel in the simmering water. Continue simmering for
30 min until it’s thick and syrupy.
-Pour in the wine and heat until steaming but not simmering. Remove
the clove-studded orange halves.
-Serve in mugs or in pre-heated glasses (with warm water) as cold
glasses will break. Drink while hot!
